Hello and Happy New Year

Some news, some views.

Some News

I know this is pretty late to wish you a happy new year, but I wasn't working on newsletters due to personal reasons. I have some news for you. Gatilab (gatilab.com) is now officially registered as a corporate entity in India.

I, along with my team, will be moving most of the work from gauravtiwari.org to gatilab.com. So, it is possible that you will be seeing these two names every now and then.

Additionally, I have written over 90 articles in the last couple of months. I didn't want to bother you with too many emails, so here are my favorites:

I recently started reading Ikigai: The Japanese secret to a long and happy life. So far so good.

If you are a college student, I have some advice for you.

Try to become a T-person while you are still in college.

T-person? What is that??

See, as a college goer, you will specialize in certain subjects. Take Physics and Mathematics for example. These two or three subjects will move you in a linear and certain direction. You can become a graduate and then a PhD and if all goes well, you can also become a professor at some good university.

This was the happiest outcome of your life as a Physics/Math major. What if things don't turn out the way you wanted?

Going to college makes you an I-person. You will find people who are good at academics but they don't do much in their life. They are still looking for a job that's worth their education.

This is one of the downsides of university education.

Don't just rely on what is taught in the universities. These learning verticals will look good on your resume but won't do much while going on with your career.

Try to learn some horizontal skills as well. Learn to present yourself better. Learn to speak better.

Experience, curiosity and self learning of other fields help you to fulfill this horizontal line to change your I into a T.

It is not just about the college students. If you are an entrepreneur, jobseeker or even a scientist, you must own these T-skills.

This is particularly important when you need to lead a team. Beyond your own knowledge and wisdom – knowing each employee’s niche will allow you to understand and empathize with your employee or team mate.

If you are like me and have chosen an alternative path from what your degree has equipped you with, focus on achieving the depth of knowledge first.

Wishing you the best for the year ahead!

Stay safe and wear a mask.
